Enchanting melodies with an emotional delivery – welcome to the mesmerizing world of UniekGrace, an emerging artist from Belgium who is currently bringing her bittersweet anthems to the global stage. Her sound is sweet, softly soothing and awe inspiring as her versatile vocals effortlessly glide over intricate organic instrumentation.
The emerging singer recently changed the game with her boundary breaking track AYEMI (remake), taken from her debut afrobeat EP, now transformed with a spellbinding sound of vocals, strings, and percussion. It literally translates to ‘My Life’ with a message that reminds every one that cherishes his or her life to never give up no matter how unpredictable our world has become.
The rapidly rising star has been making her mark since 2018 when she released her smash single, “Survivor” from her debut EP entitled “E Go Better”. This evoked immense hype in her home country of Nigeria and captured the hearts of countless new fans.
Shortly after the release of her debut, she was nominated in Belgium, London, Nigeria, and America for awards such as artist of the year and EP of the year, winning several of the categories. She continued to hone her craft and even set out to study at the music academy in her town. Here she learnt the fundamentals of jazz which allowed her to take her art even further. It’s not been an easy journey to established artist but it’s been one that’s been met with endless support from everyone that believes in what she’s doing.
Funkè Ojo-Emessiri better known by her stage name Uniekgrace was pleasantly surprised by the positive feedback she received when she started taking music more seriously. This talented Gospel Urban-Soul singer/songwriter has been building a buzz in Nigeria as well as in Europe, since the release of her single “I’m a survivor” in 2016.
Her song “I’m a Survivor” was written based on a dark road as a rape victim, brought her to a spotlight on the Nigeria media in 2017, being able to inform her nation about the lack of attention on rape victims in Africa.
A year after her major move, she was awarded by Top Naija Music award as artiste to watch on the Nigeria music scene. She has also been recognized on other award platforms in Nigeria, Belgium, and England’s Tru-Life awards and AGMMA to name a few.
A wife, a mother of four lovely children, and a registered nurse, her core values are family culture and faith. Being a typical third culture child, Uniekgrace spent her developing years in Italy, Switzerland, the USA, Nigeria, and Belgium, where she encountered many different cultures. These rich backgrounds enabled her to benefit from a large palette of influences while defining her own sound.
Her first music project was released on January 8, 2018, titled E GO BETTER produced by her Belgian based music label, AFT Media Production. A project that truly speaks of her motivation as a singer/songwriter; a project of empowerment and as she puts it, “an opportunity to inspire even more people.”
Uniekgrace’s popular songs include KU’Ishe which brought her name on Luxembourg top 50 summer songs hits in 2019; KOSI is a feature song that was also released in 2019, which caught much attention on multiple continents’ media houses, as well as Heal Our Land, her song of prayer for the world.
In the year 2019, she enrolled in a music academy in Belgium to broaden her music knowledge while working on her sophomore project which is set to be released 2021. From the sophomore project, NEARER is released in July 2020. Nearer is what she calls her intimacy song with God; a revamp of Fanny Crosby’s popular hymn, I am Thine Oh Lord.
